the symbol of Motherhood and a representation of sea waters; she’s the Protector of Women and according to legends, she adopted Sango and raised him as her son; She’s austere and immensely wealthy with all the riches of the seven seas; she has seven aspects and her colors are Blue and White, her assigned number is Seven (7)

 


OBATALA

 

Obatala is the First Orisa created. He is a symbol of Peace and Purity, he controls the mind and all thought; the head, the bones of the body, and all White Substances are his. He’s the father of the Orisas and of Humankind;

 He has dozens of aspects, and in some he is a female form;

 in each aspect he has a different name;

 his color is White and his number is Eight (8).

OSOOSI

 

Known as The Divine Hunter; he walks often with Ogun and is identified with all wildlife and with hunters;

his colors are Blue and Yellow

OLOKUN

 

The original owner of the Oceans;

This Orisa may be Male or Female and is said to be an aspect of Yemanja; Olokun represents the depths of the ocean and is sometimes identified with a mermaid; So awesome is her power that her followers invoke her only rarely; Her colors are Green and White and there are no specific numbers assigned to her


 

 OLORUN

 

Humankind’s Personal Orisa, said to be an aspect of Olodumare


Orisa-OKO

 

The symbol of Agriculture and of the harvest; he also symbolizes Prosperity and Stability; his colors are Pink and Blue; there’s no specific number assigned to him


OGUN

 

The God of War and of Metals;

he’s a powerful warrior who also provides employment and protection against wounds and all types of surgery; he’s said to be responsible for all Motor Vehicle and Railroad accidents where blood is shed;

 his colors are Green and Black. 

his numbers are Three (3) and Seven (7)

 


ELEGBA

 

The first orisa who must be honored in all ceremonies.

He is also known as Esu, and Elegua.  Elegba is the owner of the crossroads and is also said to stand on the corners to watch everything that is going on; He’s the messenger of the gods and a trickster who tests the wills of humans causing trouble; he’s justice personified and hates evildoers; his punishment of evil is swift and characertistic of his personality; Elegba is identified with fate and is often propitiated with candies which he loves; he has Sixteen (16) aspects. His colors are Red and Black.

His number is Three (3)

 and his day is Monday

 

 

BABALUAYE` / OMOLU

 

He is the patron of skin diseases, especially smallpox, and of Paraplegics; He’s very powerful and confers health, wealth, and prosperity to his followers;

 In anger he’s swift and terrible;

 his colors are Lavender Black and Beige.

He dresses in Sackcloth and in Beggars Rags. his number is Seventeen (17)

 

 

 

 

 

IBEJI

 

The Heavenly Twins; the Ibeji are Sango’s children, with Osun. They are represented as very young children and are the symbol of fertility and the duality of human nature;

they have no specific colors or numbers.

 


 

SANGO

 

One of the most powerful of the Orisas. Sango is the symbol of Fire, Thunder and Lightening, and is known as one of the greatest warriors of the Yoruba Pantheon; Sango represents Lust and Passion and Control over enemies and obstacles; He’s swift in anger and protects his followers fiercely against attack;

His colors are Red and White;

His numbers are Four (4) and Six (6).

 


 

OBBA

 

Sango’s wife and the patron of the home and of Family Life; She is a River Deity, and patron of the Niger River.

Her color is Pink, and

she has no specific number.

The diviner among the Orisas` and a symbol of great wisdom; he’s one of the most powerful of the Orisa and is very trusted by Olofi Himself; He’s the patron of all Babalayos, the High Priests of the Yorubas;

his colors are Green and Yellow;

The Goddess Osun, Symbolizes:

 Love, Gold, and Marriage.

 She is also the patron of river waters; and of the arts, especially of dance;
